Newsletter: What’s added/changed in last week for OCI?

In this post, I am briefly covering what all-new features, updates or any service changes have been introduced in OCI between 20-Mar-2022 and 26-Mar-2022.

Data Integration

With the new release of Data Integration, now you can:

  • Connect to Apache Hive as a data target.
  • Connect to Amazon Aurora and InfluxDB as data sources.
  • Specify polling and termination configuration for a REST task that invokes a long-running API operation.
  • Use one or more parameters in the data entity names when you select a data entity for a source or target operator.
  • Specify the load order for loading data into the targets in a data flow.
  • When configuring Oracle Object Storage and Amazon S3 as a data source, you can now:
    • Include file metadata (for example, file size) as an attribute in the data.
    • Display the first 10 lines of the raw data in a CSV file after selecting a file by using the name.
  • Create an hourly schedule with a repeat frequency for running published tasks.

API Gateway

The API Gateway now support HTTP/2, which give you a better security posture.

Cloud Guard

The “Scanned container image has vulnerabilities” rule has been added into OCI Configuration Detector, which will alert you when the Vulnerability Scanning service detects a container image with a potential security vulnerability.

Container Engine for Kubernetes

Container Engine for Kubernetes now supports Kubernetes version 1.22.5. With this the support for version 1.19.15 with cease on 22-Apr-22, also you will no more able to create Cluster running with version 1.19.15 and you will not be able to add new node pools to exiting clusters with version 1.19.15. Oracle strongly recommend updating the cluster to Kubernetes version  1.22.5, 1.21.5, or 1.20.11 as soon as possible. You can follow the upgrade instructions as per the document: Upgrading the Kubernetes Version on Control Plane Nodes in a Cluster and Upgrading the Kubernetes Version on Worker Nodes in a Cluster.

Operation Insights

Operations Insights now allows you to use the Capacity Planning and SQL Warehouse functionality to gain insight into Oracle Databases deployed in Oracle Cloud (Bare Metal, Virtual Machine VM, and Exadata Cloud Service). To enable please follow the link here.

MySQL Database

The Deletion Plan feature is added to MySQL DB Systems, which provides data protection against accidental data deletion. Also, you can define a final backup before the DB System is deleted and you can also define is the backups should be retained or deleted when deleting the DB System.

The Delete DB System confirmation in the console has also been improved to enable customers to review the Deletion Plan before executing the command.

A new release of Golden Gate is made available. The new release has added a feature where each deployment has a soft limit of 250 GB storage per OCPU. You can see how much storage space your deployment uses on the deployment details page. When the storage limit is reached, a message displays on the deployment details page advising you to take action to free up space.

VMware Solution

The OCI notification service can be integrated with the OCI VMware solution to monitor SDDCs, ESXi hosts, bare metal instances, and network components.

Thanks for reading my post. Let’s catch up next week with more feature updates.
