Newsletter: What’s added/changed in last month for OCI?

Let’s check all features/services OCI has updated in week 17 (02-May-22 – 08-May-22).

OS Management

You can now use the alx-migrate script to migrate standalone Autonomous Linux instances to the OS Management service. Standalone Autonomous Linux instances are instances that are based on older Oracle Autonomous Linux images. These instances are referred to as standalone Autonomous Linux instances because they are not integrated with the OS Management service.

After migration, the instances are managed using the OS Management service and take advantage of the additional autonomous capabilities provided by the service in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, such as monitoring for critical events.

A new AMD E4-based dense I/O shape with customizable memory and OCPU count is now available for virtual machines. You can choose from a variety of OCPU and memory configurations.

For bare metal instances, a new E4-based dense I/O shape with a fixed OCPU count is also available.

Application Dependency Management

A new service, which provides support for creating vulnerability audits of Java application dependencies with Maven-based on a managed Knowledge Base of vulnerabilities.

A new Logging search page is available. Below features are introduced:

  • Multi-region search: The new Select regions to search field (under More search options) allows you to run a query simultaneously across multiple regions.
  • Wrap lines: You can now wrap long log entry lines and have a complete view of the relevant log fields. This new option is available in the Explore tab’s Actions menu.
  • Manage log fields: Use the new Manage log fields panel to select the relevant log fields of interest from your log data for analysis on the Explore tab. Access the panel by selecting Actions, and Manage log fields.
  • Expand and collapse log data: You can now have a complete view of your log events by selecting Expand log data from the Explore tab’s Actions menu. Select Collapse log data to collapse all entries.
  • Query-based visualization: Choose your own log fields for visualization on the Visualize tab in both basic and advanced mode searches.

Now you can achieve consistent sub-second function start-up times using Oracle Functions provisioned concurrency. Using provisioned concurrency provides the execution infrastructure for at least a certain minimum number of concurrent function invocations, without the latency associated with initial provisioning.

Compute dense I/O virtual machine (VM) shapes now support reboot migration during infrastructure maintenance events.

MySQL Database

MySQL Database Service now supports MySQL 8.0.29. New MySQL DB systems are based on the latest MySQL Database version. MySQL Server upgrades for existing DB systems, such as from version 8.0.28 to 8.0.29, must be performed manually.

Now available in all commercial regions: You can now move metric data points from Monitoring to supported target services: Functions, Object Storage, and Streaming. To move metric data points, create service connectors that use the Monitoring service as a source.

Data Science

A new version (v2.5.10) of Data Science is made available, with the below features:

  • Added BDSSecretKeeper to store and save configuration parameters to connect to Big Data service to the vault.
  • Added the krbcontext and refresh_ticket functions to configure Kerberos authentication for the Big Data service.
  • Added authentication options to logging APIs to allow you to pass in the OCI API key configuration or signer.
  • Added the configuration file path option to the set_auth method to allow to change of the path of the OCI configuration.
  • Fixed a bug in AutoML for text datasets.
  • Fixed bug in import to notify users installing ADS optional dependencies.
  • Fixed a bug in the generated file, where Pandas dataframe’s dtypes changed when deserializing. Now you can recover it from the input schema.
  • Updated requirements to oci>=2.59.0.

Thanks for reading the OCI newsletter. Please help me with your comments and suggestion, this will help me with further improvements.
