Newsletter: What features got added/changed last week for OCI?

Let’s check all features/services OCI has updated in week 19 (16-May-22 – 22-May-22).

Data Integration

With the new release, you have the below feature added.

  • Connect to HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) as a data source or target.
  • Select source data from multiple data entities in a schema to load into new or existing targets using a data loader task.
  • Move a Data Integration application to another compartment within the workspace.
  • Copy the OCID of a Data Integration application.
  • Create run schedules that only trigger at intervals of 30 minutes or more.
  • Map tasks in a published pipeline to other published tasks in a different application in the same workspace or another workspace.
  • Quickly duplicate a source, target, or expression operator on a data flow.
  • Use runtime system-generated parameters with the expression operator in a data flow.

Below new features are added to the DevOps service.

  • Bitbucket Cloud support – Now you can mirror Bitbucket Cloud repositories and use them in the build pipeline.
  • Helm Chart support – Now you can deploy Helm charts to Container Engine for Kubernetes (OKE) cluster.
  • DevOps provides vulnerability audit – Integrates with the Oracle Application Dependency Management service to provide a vulnerability knowledge base that you can use from the DevOps build pipelines to detect vulnerabilities in the packages used for the build.

Operations Insights

Forecast Backtesting lets you quickly test the accuracy of forecasted trends by allowing you to compare historical forecasts for periods over which actual data is collected and quantify the deviation between historical and forecasted trends.

MySQL Database

Now provision MySQL DB Systems using E4 Standard, Intel Standard, and Intel Optimized shapes. The new shape families have better performance than the previous E3.

Now you can choose a character set from a list of supported character sets while provisioning an Autonomous Database.

Even though you can choose any supported combination of database and national character sets for an Autonomous Database, the Autonomous Container Database continues to use AL32UTF8 as the database character set and AL16UTF16 as the national character set. Oracle supports different database and national character sets inside an Autonomous Container Database for each database.

Container Engine for Kubernetes

It support’s Kubernetes version 1.23.4 along with 1.22.5 and 1.21.5. With the availability of the 1.23.4 version, you must consider the below point concerning running Kubernetes services in OCI

  • Container Engine for Kubernetes will cease support for Kubernetes versions 1.20.11 on July 19, 2022. As a result, you will not be able to create a new cluster or add a new node to the existing cluster with the 1.20.11 version.
  • If you are running a cluster with version 1.20.11, it is recommended to upgrade to 1.21.5, 1.22.5 or 1.23.4
